Motorcyle Rider Suffers Major Injuries In Highway 74 Accident
Highway 74 above Palm Desert was reopened to traffic around noon on Thursday after a motorcycle and passenger car collided, making the roadway impassable, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. at mile marker 88, just north of Vista Point, according to the CHP.
Edward Mang was riding his Harley Davidson when for an unknown reason he crossed center median into oncoming traffic, hitting 3 cars, investigators said. The motorcycle and one vehicle caught fire.
Mang was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The injuries to Mang is to his lower body.
The roadway was inspected before reopening it to traffic to make sure the fire didn’t damage the integrity of the pavement.
