Firefighter Injured Battling Banning Shopping Center Fire

A firefighter was injured on Wednesday while working to save stores in a strip mall from burning in an early morning fire, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene following the 2:30 a.m. blaze, Cal Fire’s Laura Germany said.

The fire caused about $450,000 worth of damage to the strip mall in the 1400 block of West Ramsey Street. Germany said four stores burned, while smoke damage affected three more.

The fire department estimated it saved $500,000 when it doused the flames.

Eight fire engines carrying 29 firefighters responded to the blaze, Germany said.
