Interstate 10 Traffic Briefly Disrupted By Brush Fire
A small brush fire broke out today along Interstate 10 just north of Palm Springs, forcing the closure of one lane of the westbound freeway as fire crews arrived to battle the flames.
The roughly one-acre blaze was burning vegetation in the triangle plot of land created by Interstate 10 and the exit and entrance ramps to Highway 62, according to Jody Hagemann of Cal Fire.
The fire began around 4:20 p.m. and the far right lane of westbound Interstate 10 was closed at 4:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fire was burning at a “moderate” rate.
“It is real spotty,” Hagemann said. “It will probably be only about two acres when we’re done.”
Hagemann said no structures were threatened.
