Indio Police Catch Robbery Suspect After Search Locked Down Schools

Four schools were placed under locked down for about an hour on Thursday morning as Indio police searched for a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery.

Police spokesman Ben Guitron told News Channel 3 police combed an area of Monroe Street near Buckingham and Sherwood searching for the suspect around 11:15.

He was taken into custody around 12:10 p.m on Windsor Street.

Four schools in the area, LBJ Elementary, JFK Elementary, Indio Middle School and Trinity Lutheran School, were locked down as a precaution. The lockdowns were lifted soon after the man was apprehended.

The search was launched after an Indio police officer believed he spotted a man who may have been involved in the robbery of a man on April 26 at the K-A convenience store on Avenue 44.
