Fire rips through house in Cathedral City Dream Homes neighborhood, smoke seen throughout valley
A fire ripped through a house in the Dream Homes neighborhood of Cathedral City Friday afternoon.
Smoke could be seen from across the west valley, and crews were up against not just the flames, but soaring temperatures as well.
As flames erupted at the home, live ammunition could be heard exploding from inside. No injuries were reported.
"I was just coming down from the store and I heard a lot of pops and then a lot flames," said neighbor Luki Perez.
Fire crews worked for hours to put out hot spots while battling triple digit temperatures too.

"We nearly have to double our resources on days like this or throughout the summer," said Robert Williams, a battalion chief with Cathedral City Fire Dept. "We need more rehabilitation for the firefighters so they can get the necessary water on board to stay hydrated and not let their body temperatures get too high."
One home was destroyed, but there was damage to the properties of several nearby homes, including backyards and power poles.
There fire caused damage to a nearby power pole, leaving 9 customers without power, Southern California Edison's outage page shows. There was no estimated time for restoration at the time.
Crews were expected to remain on scene into Friday night.
