High Winds Blow Into Coachella Valley, Roads Closed
A high wind watch is in affect and stretches into Monday afternoon, bringing with it wind gusts that could top 65-miles-per-hour.
In Palm Springs, North Indian Canyon at the wash has been closed down due to poor visibility, according to Palm Springs police. Crews expect to reopen it Monday, if winds calm down.
The National Weather Service said the main areas of concern are the east-west gaps and passes and the mountain crests into the desert areas.
Forecasters said the greatest potential of damaging winds will happen late Sunday afternoon through early Monday, which could create hazardous conditions for drivers on Interstate 10 and on streets and roads that stretch through the sandy areas of the desert, like Gene Autry Trail and Indian Canyon in Palm Springs.
Sustained winds will reach 30-to-45 miles-per-hour.
