Prep Wrestling: La Quinta Wins 8th Straight DVL Title, Dynasty Lives On

The La Quinta Blackhawks have had their way in the Desert Valley League over the last decade. They just wrapped up an 8th DVL title in a row. It didn’t come without some tense moments, however. La Quinta’s Jared Watts game the Blackhawks a 35-15 team lead after the 170 lb. bout, but Palm Desert rattled off three straight wins, including two pins to make it 35-30. It set the stage for the heavyweights to determine the outcome. Angel Contreras of La Quinta and Chase Lemmerman of Palm Desert went toe-to-toe. Lemmerman needed a pin (worth 6 points) to cap what would have been an improbable upset for the Aztecs. Instead, Contreras lasted all three rounds and avoided any disastrous situations, battling to a 3-point loss. His efforts preserved the L.Q. team win, 35-33. La Quinta has now won 45 straight DVL meets on top of their 8 consecutive league championships.
