Parasailing Accident Takes Life Of Palm Springs Man
A family friend of Jack Banaszynski, 68, of Palm Springs, told News Channel 3 on Friday that Banazinski died while on vacation in Hawaii.
He said from injuries he suffered during a tandem parasailing accident Jan. 29 near Honolulu.
According to news reports from Honolulu, the accident happened as Banaszynski and a 51-year-old friend, who was also from Palm Springs, were being reeled back in after a tandem parasailing excursion near the Kewalo Basin. Something came loose and the two men ended up in the water and were dragged about a 1,000 feet.
Banaszynski was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
His friend was treated at the scene and is okay, according to friends.
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the accident.
Depending on the outcome of a U.S. Coast Guard investigation, the parasailing company and boat captain could be punished.
This is the second parasailing accident in the waters off Oahu in less than a year.
