Major Back-Up Along I-10 From Palm Springs To Banning
A road construction project on Interstate 10 Sunday caused a major traffic back-up, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes are closed, and crews do not plan to have them back open until midnight.
The westbound back-up stretched from Banning all the way to the Indian Canyon exit in North Palm Springs at one point.
The back-up started around 10:30 a.m. and there have been multiple lane closures because of the repair work, according to the CHP’s website.
Crews are fixing pot holes along the freeway. The CalTrans project started around 11:30 Saturday night and was extended to until about 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening, but crews still have to wait for the concrete to dry.
“This has been an on-going project that has been normally taking place at night,” according to Terri Kasinga with CalTrans Public Affairs, “but for some reason the schedule was switched to today.”
“Public Affairs not alerted of this,” said Kasinga. In turn, local media was not advised to let people know.
Cars have been taking side roads and clogging those up as well.
There is no other major road out of the Valley, so the CHP advises either staying home or expect to be patient.
Always remeber to use safety, even though these delays are frustrating.
