5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Eureka

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake has hit Northern California, just north of the city of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 1:07 p.m., according to the USGS webiste, and was centered 31 miles northeast of Eureka.

Residents of Eureka reported feeling strong shaking on the website. Some are as far away as southern Oregon.

The Humbolt County sheriff’s dispatcher says there are no immediate reports of injury or damage, but deputies are going out to check on residents.
