Desert Stray Gets A Second Chance
Peaches has only known life in a cage.
“My sister was coming down, and she lost her little beagle about three years ago, so I’ve been trying to talk her into getting a new dog. But she’s kind of timid about that it might bark, it might whine,” Judy Scott said.
Sometimes fate and timing change our minds.
“My dog had a dog bite, she was bitten by a dog downtown and I had to take her to the vet. When I was in the vet I saw this lovely little face of Peaches on the wall,” Scott said. “It’s her face and her eyes, she’s just got a soul. This dog has a very deep soul.”
Judy sent a video of Peaches to her sister, and she fell in love.
“She said, ‘I want Peaches,'” Scott said.
Judy adopted the pup for her sister, Pat. Peaches has a few days to pack her bags and say goodbye to the desert. Peaches makes her big move on Tuesday. She’s flying Westjet to meet her new mom in Canada.
“She’s so excited, we send her pictures every day. We have two Peaches conversations in the morning and at night,” Scott added.
Peaches should thank K.A.S.E. – Keeping Animals Safe Everyday – an organization that helps hurt or injured animals that would otherwise be euthanized.
“Peaches was found on the road, she had a broken leg. The leg was broken for so long that the orthopedic surgeon from Rancho Mirage Animal Center couldn’t fix it, so it had to be amputated,” Karen Esposito, chairperson of K.A.S.E., said.
Judy says we can all learn something from Peaches.
“She can overcome any diversity. Moving yourself forward with one leg isn’t easy, they have to heave her whole front end up,” Scott said.
Walking may be difficult for Peaches, but Judy says loving her isn’t.
“They have a lot of love to give each other. They’re going to have lots of fun,” Scott said.
