Wind Advisory In Effect For Coachella Valley
A wind advisory is in effect for the eastern part of Riverside County until Sunday evening.
The winds will increase through the late morning, with the strongest winds expected after 2 pm, and continuing through the evening hours.
They will slowly weaken after midnight and will increase again Sunday afternoon.
The winds are expected reach reach speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. In addition, watch for blowing dust while out driving, especially out on Interstate 10.
So far no roads have been reported closed.
News Channel 3 has learned that the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway did have to shut down because of the high winds.
The blowing also forced organizers for the Taste of La Quinta, to reschedule the event to a later date. It will now take place Saturday, April 7th in Old Town La Quinta from 1pm to 4pm.
The La Quinta Chamber of Commerce expected more than 500 people to attend the event. Don’t worry if you bought a ticket beforehand, it will still be good for the rescheduled date.
