Kraft Foods Donates ‘Mobile Pantry Truck’ To Valley Food Bank

With the help of Kraft Foods, the FIND Food Bank can shift into high gear to fight hunger across the desert.

Inspired by a beverage truck, Kraft Foods donated a “Mobile Pantry Truck” to the hunger relief organization at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage on Wednesday.

“Oh, it’s a beautiful truck! This truck is going to to do so much for our organization and our agencies,” said food bank warehouse manager Gustavo Juarez.

The refrigerated truck will help the food bank deliver fresh foods to nearly 80,000 people in need in the Coachella Valley.

At each stop, the truck will deliver about 10,000 pounds of groceries to up to 200 families who can’t get to the food bank or partner agencies.

“It will be out on the roads, going out into the community, giving people what they need,” said David Blake-Thomas, vice president of Kraft Foods.

Juarez said the best part is that the Food In Need of Distribution “can roll up to a site, roll up the doors and distribute directly from the back of the truck.”

Lisa Houston, the CEO of the FIND food bank, said the pantry on wheels will provide healthy food to more people, in less time.

“This will make a huge difference. Think of it this way, it’s like a farmer’s market on wheels,” said Houston.

Houston also called the truck “food banking of the future” — fighting hunger, one mile at a time.

You can expect to see the mobile pantry rolling through the valley within the next two weeks.
