Firefighters contain vegetation fire near Thermal airport
Firefighters contained a vegetation fire burning in very dry brush near the Thermal airport, said a fire department spokeswoman.
Melody Hendrickson said the fire had burned 4 acres of in the Whitewater storm drain by 10 a.m., which was littered with dry vegetation.
Seventeen mile-per-hour winds were reported in the area with a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service.
They contained it 30 minutes later.
There were no homes or buildings threatened by the flames, Hendrickson said.
