15 acres burned in Coachella field
A wildfire broke out in a field in Coachella Monday afternoon and quickly scorched 15 acres, a county fire department spokeswoman said.
The fire was reported at 2 p.m. on Jackson Street north of Airport Boulevard and was burning at a “rapid rate,'” said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
About 20 firefighters were sent to the scene,she said.
The California Highway Patrol Jackson Street closed between avenues 54 and 55.
Firefighters contained the fire around 3:30 p.m after it burned 15 acres.
