10 Acre Debris Fire Burning In Thermal

Two inmate firefighters are being treated for minor injuries while battling a 10 acres debris fire in Thermal. The fire spread the smell of smoke across the Coachella Valley.

The blaze broke out on the 67-900 block of Fillmore Street in Thermal, just before 5:30 am this morning.

Cal Fire says the fire has grown to 10 acres. There is no threat to any structures.

Because of the high temperature and the remote location, two crews from Oak Glen were called in with as many as 75 firefighters working to contain the fire.

The battalion chief added that the fire has the potential to burn 1,000 acres. It could take another 6 to 8 hours until containment is reached.

How the fire started was not immediately known.
