Border Patrol agents arrest convicted murderer

The U.S. Border patrol announced the arrest of a 41-year-old Mexican illegal alien convicted of homicide.

The incident occurred Saturday evening at approximately 8 p.m., at the Highway 86 checkpoint. It’s located between Westmorland and Salton City.

Indio agents arrested a man they say was attempting to pass through the checkpoint.

Record checks and interviews led the agents to determine the man had been convicted for homicide in 1991 in Los Angeles. The convict’s name wasn’t released by the department.

Agents said the man had served a four year prison term, and due to that conviction, he had his Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident card revoked. He was deported to Mexico in 1995.

The man was arrested Saturday for being in the country illegally and will be detained pending federal charges.

The El Centro Sector’s Community Awareness Campaign encourages public and private sector employees to report any suspicious activity to the Border Community Threat Hotline at 1-800-901-2003.
