Indio man faces nine years for molesting teen

A registered sex offender from Indio pleaded guilty Thursday to molesting a teenager.

David Joseph Schneider, 48, pleaded guilty to one count each of oral
copulation with a minor and annoying a child and two counts of furnishing a
minor with marijuana, all felonies.

He will be sentenced to nine years in prison on Feb. 19, according to court records and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney’s spokesman John Hall said Schneider pleaded directly
to the judge, and prosecutors objected to the plea and potential sentence.

Schneider was arrested in August in at 82300 Astaire Circle in Indio on suspicion of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor that police said were committed Aug. 12, according to police and court records.

Schneider’s last known address on Astaire was listed in the state sex
offender registry.

Schneider committed lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, according to the registry, but no date was listed.

He was convicted in 2003 of furnishing a minor under 14 with marijuana
and in 2001 of failing to register as a sex offender, according to Riverside
County court records.

Schneider remains jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail pending sentencing.
