Jury convicts former CHP lieutenant of molestation

A former California Highway Patrol lieutenant is facing 10 years in prison for molesting two underage relatives more than a decade ago.
The Imperial Valley Press says an El Centro jury on Tuesday convicted 46-year-old John Swaim on four counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 even though one of the victims recanted claims that she was molested.
The female victims, who are related to Swaim, are now 17 and 20 years old.
Swaim had been free on bail. He is now jailed pending sentencing on March 5.
Swaim worked at the CHP station in Winterhaven, which is north of Interstate 8 near Yuma, Ariz.
Swaim was acquitted of a child molestation charge in the mid-1990s.
