Sex Offender Arrested by Border Patrol in Indio

U.S. Border Patrol agents in Indio arrested a convicted sex offender yesterday at the Highway 86 checkpoint as he tried to re-enter the United States after being deported last year.

Agents encountered the 31-year-old citizen of Mexico around 8:45 p.m. After interviewing the man they determined he was a previously convicted sex offender who was deported to Mexico on May 3, 2012.

The man was convicted in 2011 by the Superior Court of California for lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

Currently, the man is being held by Border Patrol agents and will be prosecuted for re-entering the U.S. after deportation.
