Crowds celebrate Black History Month parade
Bands, floats, and dancers took over Palm Canyon Drive Saturday afternoon for the 16th Black History Month Parade.
Thousands of people lined the street to continue the Palm Springs celebration of Black History Month.
“It brings people together from all cultures, and it brings us together to accept each other for what we are. That’s why I’m here,” Fern Bennett said.
Black History Month started in 1976 to celebrate the importance of black achievement and contribution in the United States.
“I love it because it represents everything that should be represented with with black community,” Matthew Haynes said.
Haynes said that’s equality, pride, and love for everyone.
“What they’ve gone through and how they’ve come to be where they are,” he said.
“It makes it feel like they support who we are nowadays more than they did back then,” Carlee Appling said.
The streets were filled with people of all walks of life and all ages.
“I always like diversity, this is great. To see it, we’re all getting along, and enjoying ourselves. I’m really glad to be here,” Bennett said.
On this beautiful afternoon, there was a lot to see, and a lot to celebrate.
