50 commercial drivers cited, one arrested in Coachella Valley yesterday
More than 50 commercial drivers passing through theCoachella Valley today were ticketed by California Highway Patrol officers, andone was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of anillegal drug.
CHP officers from the Indio and El Centro offices and the Desert HillsCommercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility targeted commercial drivers violatingtraffic laws on Interstate 10 and state Route 86 between 7 a.m. and 2 p.myesterday, according to CHP Officer Joe Zagorski.
Officers also inspected vehicles for mechanical problems, he said.
Officers cited 36 drivers for “primary collision factor” violations,14 for mechanical violations and one for driving with a suspended license,Zagorski said.
One driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, he said.
Fifteen vehicles were inspected and most had “dangerous” issues andtaken out of service until they could be repaired, Zagorski said.
