Bridge replacement project requires freeway shutdown
Sections of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway will be shut down this weekend, requiring eastbound and westbound motorists to take a detour.
Partial freeway closures are scheduled both tonight and Saturday nightat Nason Street, according to city officials.
Crews will be tearing down falsework supporting the current Nason Streetbridge in preparation for a replacement, officials said.
To minimize disruptions by keeping at least one side of the freewayopen, the work will be done over two nights.
The first closure is scheduled from 11:50 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m.Saturday, during which the eastbound side of the freeway will be closed atNason Street.
Traffic will be detoured off the freeway at the overcrossing andimmediately routed back onto the freeway after clearing the site, according tothe city.
Motorists attempting to go north or south on the Nason Street overpasswill also be detoured.
The second closure is scheduled from 11 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sundayand will affect motorists using the westbound Moreno Valley Freeway. Alltraffic will be detoured off the freeway via Moreno Beach Drive, then west onto Ironwood Avenue and south onto Perris Avenue before rejoining the freeway, officials said.
Additional closures are expected in the coming months.
