Ex-Marine denies ordering double killing

A former Marine has testified in his murder trial that he did not order the killings of a Marine sergeant and his wife in their Southern California home nearly five years ago.

Tyrone Miller took the stand Monday in a Riverside County courtroom and said there was never an intent to rob or murder Sgt. Jan Pietrzak and his wife. Miller says he went to the couple’s house to confront Pietrzak, who had earlier promised to make sure Miller wasn’t promoted to corporal.

Miller and two other former Marines have pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges for the slayings of Pietrzak and his wife in October 2008. If convicted, they each could face the death penalty.

Prosecutors say Miller told a colleague after the shooting that he ordered the killings.
