Man in a wheelchair killed after being hit by car
An investigation was underway today into a crash that tookthe life of a 57-year-old wheelchair-bound man in Indio.
The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday in the area of DoctorCarreon Boulevard and Monroe Street, according to a statement from the IndioPolice Department. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounceddead, police said.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim stopped and cooperatedwith investigators, according to police. He was not believed to have been underthe influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.
Doctor Carreon Boulevard was closed between Cheyenne Road and MonroeStreet as police investigated the collision.
