Rescue mission saves homeless from the heat

Homeless people in Indio received much needed supplies Friday, thanks to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission’s “90 days of Summer Relief Campaign.”

Workers handed out water, shirts, hats, shoes and sunscreen out on the streets.
As volunteer Fransisca Ochoa told us, it’s an effort to encourage homeless people to visit the mission and get the help they need.

“I want them to know that there is hope,” Ochoa says. “They can get out of it. There is somebody that is willing to help them. There’s people out here that care and that love them.”

Last summer, the outreach helped more than 500 people in Duroville, Coachella, Indio, Mecca, Thermal, and Palm Springs.
