New bridge projects will be discussed at open house in Palm Springs tonight

The city of Palm Springs and other government agencies will hold an open house tonight about two bridge projects in the Palm Springs area.

The 6 p.m. meeting at Palm Springs’ City Hall is meant to to inform residents about a proposed bridge over the Whitewater River on Vista Chino Drive and widening the existing Ramon Road Bridge.

The new Vista Chino Bridge would replace the existing low-water crossing to improve emergency access during major flooding. The Ramon Road Bridge project calls for the bridge to be widened from four to six traffic lanes, according to city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell.

The public can see exhibits of the project, and project workers will answer questions and take comments and suggestions.

Input from residents and local business owners is welcome, Blaisdell said.

Palm Springs is holding the open house with Cathedral City, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration.
