Palm Springs Pride Parade names grand marshal
Blogger Joe Jervis will serve as national grandmarshal for the 27th annual Greater Palm Springs Pride Parade later this year.
Jervis will join community grand marshals Melanie Jones, EllenZimmerman, Mark Jones and Brian Vatcher, and other to-be-announced marshals forthe Nov. 3 parade in downtown Palm Springs. The parade is part of the PalmSprings Pride Celebration on Nov. 1-3. This year’s theme is “It’s Time.”
Jervis is the author of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender newsand culture blog Joe.My.God., which is in the top 100 most-read political blogsin the country. He is an editor-at-large and senior writer for Pride magazine,and his work has appeared in other publications. He is a frequent guest on talkradio, and his work has been cited in national news outlets. He has beenhonored by media and LGBT groups for his work, and San Francisco Mayor GavinNewsom proclaimed Oct. 10, 2009 as “Joe Jervis Day,” according to GreaterPalm Springs Pride.
The parade’s grand marshal and celebrity grand marshal will be announcedin the next few weeks. The grand marshals will also be recognized at thePride Honors awards ceremony on Oct. 4.
