Hwy 74 back open after deadly accident

California Highway Patrol reports State Route 74 is now back open after being shutdown because of a deadly crash at the base of the hill in Palm Desert.

Two vehicles slammed into each other today on Highway 74 in Pinyon, killing two people at the scene.

Firefighters received a call at 1:30 p.m. and went to the highway one mile half past Vista Point.

The Riverside County Corner’s Office identifies them as 25 year old Jason Alexander of Palm Springs, and 48 year-old Rosalinda Rossi of Palm Desert.

One person was flown to a hospital with major injuries while the another was also sent to a hospital with moderate injuries, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

We have a crew on the scene and will bring you more information as we get it.
