Man in wheelchair struck and killed by vehicle in Cathedral City

Police today were investigating the death of a 69-year-old man fatally struck by a vehicle while operating a wheelchair in Cathedral City.

Officers were sent around 7:45 p.m. Thursday to investigate a report of an unresponsive man in the middle of Dinah Shore Drive west of Via Altamira, according to Cathedral City police and the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

The Cathedral City resident, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

It was unclear if the vehicle who struck him left the scene.
