Construction accident causes gas leak at Indio High School
A construction crew near Indio High School caused a gas leak that forced 2,000 students and faculty to evacuate to safety early Wednesday morning.
SoCalGas crews say an operator of a third party backhoe hit a three inch pressurized gas line just before 10:00 a.m. They say crews stopped the flow of gas at 10:30 am and made the area safe.
No injuries were reported and students were allowed to return to school.
According to Cal Fire, damage is assessed at approximately $3,000.
SoCalGas urges business owners and residents to “call 811 before you dig” in the yard or at construction sites.
