New hotel opens in Palm Springs

City and tourism officials will break ground Thursday on the first hotel to be built in Palm Springs in more than a decade.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the site of the Arrive hotel at 1551 N. Palm Canyon Drive. The first phase of work for the 32-room “boutique” hotel will start next week, and the hotel is expected to open early next year, according to city officials.

Mayor Steve Pougnet, developer Ezra Callahan, architect Chris Pardo and city and tourism officials are expected to attend this morning’s ceremony.

Arrive will be the first hotel built in Palm Springs from the ground up in more than 10 years, said John Raymond, the city’s director of community and economic development.

The hotel will include a restaurant, retail spaces and a pool area with cabanas.

In a letter to area residents last year, Callahan and Pardo said the project would give a“timely economic boost to the area, generating new jobs and bringing additional customers to nearby businesses. And the superior quality of our restaurant and hotel will help continue to establish uptown as a prime hub in the city for tourists and residents alike.”
