Hit and run suspect in Cathedral City faces felony charges

A 28-year-old man suspected of drunken driving and hitting and injuring two pedestrians in Cathedral City and then leaving the scene was arrested and now faces possible felony charges, police said.

Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, which happened around 9:10 p.m. Thursday, in the area of Dinah Shore and Date Palm drives, said Cathedral City police Sgt. Corwin DeVeas.

Neither required hospitalization and were released at the scene, he said.

A witness reported the vehicle’s license plate number and officers located the suspect, Jesus Garcia-Salaises, in the 68200 block of 33rd Street, DeVeas said.

Garcia-Salaises was brought to the scene, identified and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license, DeVeas said, adding that the man has a prior DUI conviction.
