CA, Chinese officials announce climate deal
California Gov. Jerry Brown and a high-ranking Chinese climate negotiator will sign an agreement meant to boost cooperation between the state and China on clean energy technologies and climate change.
The governor’s office on Friday said the memorandum of understanding to be signed is the first climate agreement between China’s National Development and Reform Commission and a subnational government.
Details of the agreement were due to be released at a 4 p.m. news conference in San Francisco with Brown and the Chinese official.
Evan Westrup, a spokesman for the governor, said the agreement reflects California’s stature in the world as a leader on climate change policy, and the governor’s willingness to engage with the international community.
