Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival to open Thursday
Palm Springs’ annual gay and lesbian film festivalwill screen more than 50 films starting this week.
The sixth annual Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian FilmFestival, put on by the nonprofit Palm Springs Cultural Center, will be heldThursday through Sunday at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs.
The festival will open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with a screening of“Southern Baptist Sissies,” a question-and-answer session and reception forthe cast. The film, based on a play by Del Shores, follows the lives of fourgay boys who grow up in the Southern Baptist Church.
Other featured films include director Jane Clark’s award-winning drama“Meth Head,” documentary “Disturber of the Peace” about an actor-turnedactivist and Episcopal priest, anti-bullying documentary “Teach Your ChildrenWell” and the world premiere of “Celluloid,” a psychological thriller fromGreat Britain.
The festival will close Sunday night with “I Am Divine,” a newdocumentary about drag queen Divine, and “Last Match (La Partida),” a storyabout two Cubans in Havana by Spanish director Antonio Hens.

A pass good for six films is $69, a pass for all films is $149 and apass for all films and the opening-night reception is $169. Individualscreening tickets are $13 with the exception of opening night, which is $15.
