Palm Desert woman accused of driving drunk with two children in the car
A suspected drunken woman, with two young children in her car, crashes her sedan into a parked car and ran red lights as she sped across Palm Desert with a witness in chase, police said.
Marcella Monique Garza, 29, of Palm Desert, was stopped by police and her children taken into police custody.
Officers said she was on probation and violated it in the alleged crimes.
The incident began at 6:27 p.m. Saturday, when a new Toyota Corolla hit a parked car at East Hovley and Oasis Club drives. The Toyota sped off.
The victim tailed the driver, and witnessed Garza allegedly running past two red lights, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. David Wright said.
Sheriff’s deputies pulled over Garza in the 72600 block of Fred Waring Drive, where she was arrested for suspicion of hit and run driving, child endangerment and violating her probation, Wright said.
The two children found inside of Garza’s car were apparently were not hurt. Police reports did not reveal if there was a family relationship between the driver and the children.
