Teen shoplifting suspects attack security guards

Three teenagers are facing charges this morning accused of shoplifting from a Walmart store in Palm Desert.

Police were called to the store on 34500 Monterey Avenue Friday night.

That’s where they say the teens were caught putting items in a purse.

A security guard reportedly confronted them as they tried to leave.

Authorities say one of the teens pulled out a gun and hit the officer over the head with the weapon.

Police say another officer was punched and the teens drove off in a tan SUV.

Thanks to witness accounts, police later tracked down the suspects’ car in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant.

All three were taken into police custody.

One of the suspects admitted he had a gun, but said it was a BB gun. Police say the suspect told them he threw it out the window. Police searched the area but never found anything.

A 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds were booked into the juvenile hall in Indio on charges including burglary, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and possessing a firearm.
