Two meth busts within 24 hrs at same checkpoint

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents busted a suspected drug smuggler in Niland, California, Tuesday around 8 p.m. It was the second person with methamphetamine who was stopped at the checkpoint in less than 24 hours.

The 48 year old man was driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado as he approached the checkpoint on Highway 111.

The man’s truck was searched after a K9 alerted agents to the vehicle. Agents found 4.84 lbs. of meth that was worth an estimated $58,080.

The driver, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was arrested and the truck and drugs were handed over to the DEA.

The drug bust was the second seizure of the day at the same checkpoint.

Agents working around 6 a.m. discovered over 13 lbs. of meth that was concealed behind a car radio in a Honda. Two men were arrested in connection to that drug bust.
