Man killed in hit & run crash identified

The man who was killed in Palm Springs after being hit by two vehicles on Sunday night has been identified. The car expected of causing the fatal injuries stopped after the man was hit, but police are looking for a possible witness; a driver of an SUV that was also involved who drove away from the accident.

The crash happened on N. Gene Autry Trail, north of Via Escuela.

The coroner’s office identified the man as 55-year-old Michael Rall.

The Palm Springs Police Department said Rall was walking when he was hit by two cars around 9:20 p.m. Investigators believe the car that initially hit Rall caused his fatal injuries. That driver stopped after the accident and cooperated with officers.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident.

Investigators are still trying to locate the driver of the second vehicle that was involved who drove off after the collision.

They said this driver is a possible witness to the accident. They think the person was driving a gray Dodge Durango.

The watch commander for the police department said Rall was unconscious, but still breathing after getting hit. He was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Officers shut down Gene Autry in both directions from I-10 to Via Escuela for five hours during the investigation.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call them at (760) 323-8106.
