Rep. Ruiz advancing veterans legislation in Washington

Rep. Raul Ruiz has introduced veterans legislation in Washington that among other things is aimed at making sure veterans receive the benefits they deserve.

After polling veterans in the 36th District, the congressman discovered several areas where veterans are being shortchanged.

Of particular concern, the inability of veterans to obtain benefits because of a backlog of paperwork in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Ruiz says it’ s time the federal government becomes more efficient in processing claims.

“Why?-Because the human face of this inefficiency is not smiling and that’s the human face of our veterans who are waiting years for their claims to be processed,” says Ruiz.

Ruiz has packaged together five veterans related bills that besides concentrating on speeding up the claims process, also promotes jobs for veterans and improving the quality of life for disabled veterans.

No timeline has been set on when the House may vote on the legislation.
