World renowned doctor portrayed in T.V. movie will speak tonight in Indian Wells
Pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson will speak inIndian Wells tonight to wrap up the Desert Town Hall annual speaker series.
The talk starts at 6 p.m. at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa.
Carson, who grew up in low-income, inner-city Detroit, initially struggled in school and then improved with his mother’s encouragement.
He laterwent to medical school and became director of pediatric neurosurgery at JohnsHopkins University.
He was credited as the first surgeon to separate twinsjoined at the head, and retired last year.
Carson was played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. in the TNT movie “Gifted Hands:The Ben Carson Story,” and has written several books, including New York Timesbestseller “America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This NationGreat.”
At 5 p.m., Carson and his wife Candy will speak to local students abouttheir Carson Scholars Program, which awards scholarships and encouragesreading.
