Firefighters extinguish blaze at homeless camp in Desert Hot Springs

Cal Fire responded to a homeless camp in Desert Hot Springs around 1 p.m. Thursday after a fire was reported.

The fire started in an area near Pierson Blvd. and Skyborne Drive.

Officials said a shack, or something similar to a shack, caught fire and ignited debris in the area. Firefighters said the structure burned to the ground.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, no injuries were reported.

Police are also investigating the incident because three vehicles were discovered near the homeless camp. Officers are working to determine if the cars were reported stolen or were just abandoned.
