2 men die after home explosion in Coachella

The two men who were seriously burned after a home exploded in Coachella on Wednesday night have died from their injuries.

The Riverside County Coroner identified the men as 38-year-old Javier Perez Lopez and 34-year-old Samuel Felix Diarte. Both were from Coachella and they passed away on Thursday.

The Coachella Police Department responded to the home in the 1300 block of 5th Street just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. The fire was contained by 6:25 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the two men in the road in front of the home. They both suffered extensive 3rd degree burns and were taken to a trauma burn center for treatment.

During the investigation it was determined the cause of the explosion was from a methamphetamine lab being operated inside the residence, police reported on Friday.

Detectives from the Thermal Station and the Central Homicide Unit are investigating the case. No arrests have been made.
