Workers forced to evacuate after gas leak

Construction workers had to evacuate their work site after a gas leak was reported in Indio Tuesday morning.

Officials said the incident was reported around 11:30 a.m. at the Walmart construction site off Monroe Street and Avenue 42, just north of I-10.

Utility crews responded to repair the leak.

Authorities initially planned to close one westbound lane of I-10 from Jefferson Street to Monroe Street while repairs were being made, but later decided the closure wasn’t necessary.
