Former Sheriff’s Deputy accused in murder

A former Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy is accused in the murder of a man in the San Bernardino County mountain community of Crestline.

Authorities say 53-year old Steve Baumgartner shot his neighbor, Michael Clark, after an argument on Monday.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirms Baumgartner was a sworn deputy, assigned to court services in Indio from 1990 until he left the department in 1998.

Baumgartner is being held on a charge of first degree murder.
