Man arrested after cocaine found in engine of truck
A 54-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after Border Patrol agents discovered narcotics stashed in the engine of his Toyota Tundra.
The man was stopped at about 2 p.m. at the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City, according to a Border Patrol release. Agents began searching his truck after a Canine Detection Team alerted them to the vehicle.
They ended up finding three bundles of cocaine hidden within the manifold of the truck. They said the cocaine weighed 8.13 lbs. and estimate it to be worth $105,690.
The suspected smuggler is a United States citizen. He was taken into custody and the drugs and his vehicle are now in the possession of the D.E.A. for further investigation, agents said in the release.
