Woman busted with 50 lbs of coke in El Centro

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized over 50 pounds of cocaine on Friday.

The smuggling attempt occurred at the Highway 86 checkpoint around 9:45 a.m. Border Patrol agents encountered a 41-year-old woman driving a Chrysler Pacifica when a Border Patrol canine team alerted to the vehicle.

During the inspection, agents discovered 20 bundles within the backs of the passenger seats containing a total of 52.02 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $676,260.

The suspected smuggler, a United States permanent resident, was taken into custody. The woman, vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
