Power restored in Palm Springs during one of year’s hottest days

Some Southern California Edison customers near Palm Springs were without electricity Wednesday morning just west of the city in Windy Point.

Edison reported 109 customers were going to spend much of their day without lights and more importantly their air conditioners. Edison blamed equipment failure for the unplanned outage.

The outage was expected to last until 6:30 p.m for some customers, according to SCE’s website, but News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 learned that all customers had their power restored by 11:30 a.m.

The fix is great news for those who were affected because temperatures could reach 116 degrees in the Coachella Valley and up to 105 degrees in the mountains on Wednesday, meteorologists said.

One resident who called News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 News said she’s elderly with dogs, and says its difficult for her to move around to find a place to stay cool.

Weather service forecasters said hot weather can be stressful for people and pets if precautions are not taken.

Kids and pets must not be left unattended in vehicles because temperatures inside can quickly rise to lethal levels.
