Suspect crashes stolen car in Thousand Palms
A victim’s relative called police Thursday afternoon to report someone driving around in his brother-in-law’s stolen car.
The man saw the stolen Audi around 3 p.m. and began following the suspects. The pursuit led to Ramon Road, where he said the suspects were driving westbound at about 90 MPH.
But when the thieves tried to pass a car, the Audi ended up hitting a patch of sand and rolled multiple times into the desert, the witness said. The crash happened near Ramon Road and Thousand Palms Canyon Road at about 3:30 p.m.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 were at the scene. According to police, there was a total of four suspects and they all appear to be juveniles. Three of the suspects are in custody but were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
The fourth suspect is still on the run, police said.
Traffic on Ramon Road, just north of Thousand Palms Canyon Road, was reduced to one lane while officers cleared the crash scene.
