Armed robbery suspect arrested after Palm Springs standoff
A Cathedral City man was arrested and a Palm Springs neighborhood is getting back to normal after an armed robbery and a more than four-hour long standoff in Palm Springs Friday night.
Police arrested 24-year-old Jody Wayne Noel, in connection with an armed robbery at the Super Walmart on Ramon Road in Palm Springs that happened around 4:30 p.m.
Palm Springs police say Noel allegedly stole merchandise and brandished a firearm at a security guard as he left the store. He fled in a dark gray vehicle.
Officers began their search and located the vehicle parked in a driveway on in the 2900 block of Chuperosa Road, near Sunrise Road and Racquet Club, where Noel was hiding inside.
Police surrounded the home and Noel refused to comply so the Desert Regional SWAT Team came to the scene to help.
After more than four hours, Noel surrendered and was taken into custody without incident just after 11 p.m.
Noel is being charged on three felony charges including robbery, possession of a firearm and committing a crime while on bail.
No one was hurt. No other suspects were involved in the crime.
